The Olympus OM-D E-M5 digital camera is a significant one because it has qualities that could shift a part DSLR industry. For dedicated camera users, there are those who would like lesser weight and size of DSLRs of today. These users could either be a news journalist, travel photographer, or a wedding photographer which are out in the field carrying the camera and other equipment.
To simplify, despite the small size and weight of the E-M5, the image quality, performance, and features it has comes close to current DSLR cameras of today which makes it questionable if some DSLRs would still be relevant.
Because it is new and that good, the current pricing of the camera is around $1,000 which makes it slightly pricier than other systems such as the Canon 600D and the Nikon 5100 yet for those users who make a living out of their photography, the price difference would not matter as the convenience is very valuable.
Not only does it help the photographer but also the subject. There are some people subjects that are conscious of the huge DSLRs and lenses of pros which sometimes intimidate subjects and produce facial expressions that are quite unnatural. With a smaller camera, people would thought of it as a simple camera to which they would be less conscious or even aware of, producing more relaxed images, capturing that moment as true as it was. I find this value to be perfect for wedding and street photographers were people emotions should come out naturally and unhindered.
